Periodic Report - SWITCHBOX (Switchbox: Maintaining health in old age through homeostasis)

Project ID: 259772
Funded under: FP7-HEALTH

Abstract

Age related brain disorders and impairments represent a major socioeconomic burden. It appears that brain and metabolic or endocrine processes are linked and that dysregulation of homeostatic mechanisms during ageing is associated with increased morbidity and impairments in brain function.

Therefore, the SWITCHBOX project, which was funded by the European Commission (EC), aimed to facilitate maintenance of health in ageing through better understanding and exploitation of homeostatic mechanisms. More specifically, the project focussed on metabolic homeostasis.

This publishable summary provides a brief overview of the SWITCHBOX background and objectives and presents the research strategy that was implemented. Moreover, it lists the publications that were produced based on the project findings.
