Periodic Report 1 - BIOLIQUIDS-CHP (Engine and turbine combustion of bioliquids for combined heat and power production)

Project ID: 227303
Funded under: FP7-ENERGY

This is the publishable summary report for the BIOLIQUIDS-CHP project which received funding under the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The aim of the project is to adapt engines / turbines to enable operation on a variety of bioliquids, including pyrolysis liquids. As far as the research on bioliquids is concerned, several batches have been produced or purchased, characterised and upgraded, including pyrolysis oil from pine and straw, sunflower oil, and biodiesel. Regarding the research into the engines / turbine, the work focused on identifying and implementing modifications that would enable the use of bioliquids, including two internal combustion engines, a newly developed external combustion engine and a micro gas turbine. The project partners also assessed the developed systems in terms of economic and environmental performance, and will identify the different market opportunities.
