Final Report - ATLAS (Development of laser-based technologies and prototype instruments for genome-wide chromatin immunoprecipitation analyses)

Abstract

This is the final publishable summary report for the ATLAS project which received funding under the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The overall objective of ATLAS was to develop novel types of femtosecond (fs) tunable ultraviolet lasers to induce highly efficient Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)-protein crosslinking for chromatin immunoprecipitation analyses (LChIP). LChIP will overcome the current limitations of chemical crosslink.

LChIP technologies were also applied to selected cell populations (down to the single cell level); this goal was achieved by connecting the Laser with a microfluidic system, which may sort out specific cell populations, and by selectively focusing on cell populations in solid tissues or specimens. Finally, software to automate the laser and microfluidic station system was developed thereby constructing a versatile and user-friendly new dedicated machine of high commercial interest.

The report covers initially an executive summary and goes on with a detailed description of the project context and objectives, as well as detailed description of the main scientific and technological results. It closes with the potential impact and the main dissemination activities and exploitation of results.
