This is the final publishable summary Report for the LIV-ES project which received funding under the European Commission (EC)'s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). LIV-ES aimed to develop reproducible, animal-free conditions for the efficient differentiation of human embryonic stem cell (hESC) to hepatic progenitors, with the aim of providing the European community with the necessary knowledge and tools to establish a renewable source of transplantable cells for treating chronic liver disease. The report includes an executive summary focusing on the project context and concept and goes on with introducing the wider context and the objectives set out to achieve the main aim. It then presents the main scientific and technological results of the four work packages. The potential impact and the main dissemination activities and exploitation of results are also presented. The report closes with the partners involved.
