Periodic Report - PEGGED (Politics, Economics and Global Governance: The European Dimensions)

Project ID: 217559
Funded under: FP7-SSH

Abstract

This is the periodic Report of the PEGGED project on a European perspective of politics, economics and global governance, which received funding under the European Commission (EC)'s Seventh Framework Program (FP7). PEGGED research will help Europe to construct and project a vision of an evolved future global system. It is organised in four research work packages or 'research domains'. They refer to international macroeconomic governance, globalisation and financial stability, the integration of markets for trade in goods and services and, finally, migration and the mobility of labour.

PEGGED researchers actively responded in meeting the urgent needs of the European and global policy-makers responsible for dealing with the global financial crisis given that the collapse of Lehman Brothers happened just after the PEGGED project began. The project supports the role that the EU could play in encouraging more sustainable and legitimate outcomes in terms of financial liberalisation in an ongoing fight against protectionism. It also suggests that the economic crisis has severe implications for the global trading system. In conclusion, PEGGED works towards reinforcing the legitimacy of global governance and the robustness of the policy frameworks adopted.
