Periodic Report - BASALGANGLIANETWORKS (Basal ganglia and the control of locomotion)

Project ID: 253873
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

Funded under the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), the main aim of the BASALGANGLIANETWORKS project was to understand how neuronal populations in the basal ganglia contribute to the control of locomotion and the execution of habits. For this purpose a behavioural paradigm in which rats would learn to repetitively perform a motor skill needed to be established as well as a treadmill allowing the use of lateral cameras and sensors that can fully capture the dynamics of locomotion over several seconds. The report presents the related outcomes and then covers an overview of the results' potential impact. The report also includes a number of images and graphs.
