Abstract

This is the final publishable report of the HEALTHGOVMATTERS project which received funding under the European Commission (EC)'s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). HEALTHGOVMATTERS explored patients' and professionals' formal and informal involvement in governing the production and mediation of health and medical knowledge. More specifically it sought to explore interactions amongst constellations of actors with new health technologies and medical knowledge. As regards the diseases focus was laid on epilepsy, migraine and autism in the United Kingdom and Austria and on mitochondrial disease in Germany. As regards the technologies focus was laid on new imaging technologies and new pharmaceutical devices.

The report starts with an executive summary providing a general overview of the project and then presents an overview of its context and its specific objectives. It also outlines some distinguishing features of the project that were key to meeting the proposed objectives. The research was organised in three core streams, an in-depth analysis of which is provided in this report. Finally, the report closes with an overview of the potential impact and the dissemination activities.
