Final Report - PRP8CHROMATIN (Molecular analysis of the mechanisms linking co-transcriptional splicing with chromatin)
Project ID: 272242Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE
This is the final report for the PRP8CHROMATIN project, which received funding under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The project emphasises that a better understanding of the flowering control of the agricultural crops is fully in line with goals of research in the FP7 first priority thematic areas, such as food, agriculture and biotechnology and environment including climate changes. The report presents the results and achievements of the project. In summary, it revealed the mechanism by which PRP8 represses sense FLC expression and showed it involved altered splicing and polyadenylation of an antisense transcript that in turn regulated sense strand transcription. Given that pervasive transcription has been detected in many genomes this work has the potential to inform regulation of transcription in many organisms.
