Final Report - CLEAN CUT (Development of a clean and energy efficient cutting system for the 12 millions tons of granite blocks yearly processed in enlarged EU)

Project ID: 222163
Funded under: FP7-SME

Abstract

The stone industry is of strategic importance for the European Union (EU) economy, particularly for its southern member states including Italy, Spain and Portugal. Although the prospects for the future development of the sector are promising, there are several problems which have to be addressed, particularly when considering granite slab production.

Therefore, the CLEAN-CUT project, which was funded under the European Commission (EC)'s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), aimed to develop a cost-effective small diameter diamond wire with increased life cycle based on superelastic nichel-titanium alloys (nitinol).

This final publishable summary firstly outlines the project concept and summarises its objectives. It also presents the CLEAN-CUT participants and closes with a brief overview of the proposed innovative solutions.
