Final Report - SUPROGAL (Sustainable Production of Galanthamine by both in vitro and agricultural crops of highly galanthamine-containing plants)
Project ID: 219795Funded under: FP7-SME
This is the final report of the SUPROGAL project which was funded under the European Commission (EC)'s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The project looked into the sustainable production of galanthamine by both in vitro culture and agricultural crops of highly galanthamine-containing plants. The introductory chapters cover the research activities which were focused to collect plants of Leucojum aestivum and Narcissus confusus from natural sites, to check their content of galanthamine and other related alkaloids, to create and maintain ex-situ collections, to adapt the plants to different environmental conditions and to perform agronomical tests to establish the optimal growth conditions. These were then introduced to the in vitro culture for mass propagation and tested to grow them under different in vitro conditions, with the aim to optimise the in vitro production of galanthamine at large scale. The research program was broken down to seven work packages, each of them divided into different tasks. The work carried out within the project is here described separately for each work package.
