Periodic Report - ELSIC (A cross-context study of early language skills of immigrant children in Canada and the Netherlands)

Project ID: 219276
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

Abstract

This is the perodic report of the ELSIC funded under the European Union (EU)-funded framework programme (FP) seven. ELSIC addresses two questions: on what extent do bilingual immigrant children at the onset of their school career lag behind their monolingual native peers with respect to language acquisition milestones?; and to what extent do the language skills of bilingual immigrant children at the onset of their school career differ across contexts, and to what extent do societal context factors determine the language skills of bilingual immigrant children? Apart from these project objectives, there are several training objectives.

The report coherently describes in detail the background and the main objectives of the project; the work performed within it; and the results achieved so far. Furthermore, the report describes the dissemination of the results and their potential socio-economical impact and use.
