Final Activity Report - EC - SARNET (A Proposal of Network of Excellence for a Sustainable Integration of European Research on Severe Accident Phenomenology and Management)

Project ID: 509065
Funded under: FP6-EURATOM-NUCTECH

Abstract

This is the final report of the EC - SARNET project funded under the European Commission (EC)'s Sixth Framework Programme (FP6). The SARNET Network began on 1 April 2004. During the first year, an important effort has been devoted to the deployment of communication means, to the deployment of ASTEC and to the constitution of small working groups (or interpretation circles). During the second year of SARNET the main progress has concerned the deployment of Datanet, the consolidation of the working groups, the initiation of excellence spreading activities and the development of a methodology for identification and ranking of research needs. The third year allowed a general consolidation of all these items with particular emphasis on the determination of research priorities and an enhancement of the activities in some interpretation circles, linked to the arrival of new partners. Finally, the last 18 month period confirmed the consolidation of all the SARNET progress. Real achievements were obtained and are reported in this synthesis document. This synthesis report presents the major achievements at the end of the project, after four and a half years of operation of the network, in terms of knowledge gained, of improvement of the ASTEC reference code, of dissemination of results and of integration of the research programmes conducted by the different partners.
