Final publishable report of project JOE3-CT97-0078.

The manufacture of paper from pulp requires a large amount of energy and a major part of the energy consumption is connected with de-watering (i.e. the removal of water from the pulp) and consolidation. A number of high-temperature wet pressing processes have been envisaged which could make a major impact on the efficiency of de-watering and consolidation.

The objective of this project has been to generate the necessary scientific and technical knowledge required for the understanding of new high-temperature wet pressing processes and for the proper design and operation of such processes.
