Periodic Report - OBJECTGUIDEDACTIONS (Recognizing Object Guided Human Actions)

Project ID: 208529
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

This is the second periodic report of the OBJECTGUIDEACTIONS project, which is funded under the European Commission (EC) Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The project is developing methods for consistent image segmentation and capturing context in human motion analysis. Progress has been made in establishing methods for fast searches in large databases of features and compact representations for image features. The researchers have worked on advanced methods for human action recognition by adopting the popular 'bag-of-words' and extending the applicability of this approach to recognition of object-guided actions. They have developed a model which combines the underlying ideas of bag-of-words models with temporal context. This captures the temporal order of sub-actions in multiple temporal scales leading to enhanced action recognition results.

Other achievements include simple mapping to aid searching in large subspace databases, and proposed algorithms for learning a dictionary that leads to sparse representation of signals residing in subspaces.
