Final Report - COAST (Chiral Organometallics for Asymmetric Synthesis)

Project ID: 220537
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

This is the final report of the COAST project, which is funded under the European Commission (EC) Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The COAST project aims to improve access to chiral organometallic (carbon to metal) reagents. To do this the research is focusing on the creation of a broad-scope method to generate chiral organometallic reagents, using chiral nucleophiles with good leaving groups. This method is used so that on reaction with another organometallic, an ate complex will be formed, and following 1,2-metallate rearrangement, a new chiral organometallic will be generated which can subsequently be trapped by an electrophile.

The COAST project eventually hopes to make a major impact in academia and the chemical industry as the generation of functional chiral organometallic reagents which essentially could provide ready access to any chiral compound.
