Final Report - XMMSDSS (Understanding the evolution of Active Galactic Nuclei)

Project ID: 230644
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

This is the final report of the XMMSDSS project, which is funded under the European Commission (EC) Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). This project focuses on the evolution of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) – regions of the galaxy that have a much higher than normal luminosity. The project looked into the physical processes responsible for the rapid decline of AGN activity in the Universe. The properties of the galaxies that host an active supermassive black hole were studied, as were X-ray wavelengths at different redshifts.

The project has successfully performed an X-ray AGN survey, and studied the evolution of AGN hosts' star-formation, stellar mass and environment. The results from these studies have already been presented in refereed publications to high-impact journals.
