This is the final report of the ILP-ULTRA project, which is funded under the European Commission (EC) Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). This project looked into the interaction of ultra-intense laser pulses with plasmas. The effects of laser pulses on electrons, ions and low-density structured targets were studied, in addition to research into THz pulses from plasma channels.

This project has discovered that in order to produce the best-quality light, ions should have a small total charge. Researchers also developed a mono-energetic proton beam; a new electron-ion collisional operator in the Boltzmann form, they tested criterion of the efficient plasma smoothing based on the process of near forward stimulated Brillouin scattering, and developed a theoretical model of the electron distribution function created under tunnel ionisation in the laser field.
