Final Report - EVOLBIRD (Demographic strategies under climate variation: a study on Arctic and Antarctic seabirds)

Project ID: 235962
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

This is the final report for the EVOLBIRD project, funded by the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The project focused on the highly sensitive polar marine ecosystems, for which relatively few studies have been done although they send out some of the strongest signals of global change. It set out to identify how exactly environmental variability affects survival, breeding performance and evolutionary processes among seabirds. More specifically, using state-of-the-art technologies, it also explored the adaptive responses of seabird populations to different environmental changes through micro-evolutionary processes.

This international and multidisciplinary project addressed major methodological and scientific issues, and contributed to a better understanding of the Antarctic and Arctic ecosystems and their responses to climate variability.
