Periodic Report 2 - MRI_NANOBIOSENSOR (Novel Nanobiosensors for Identifying Microorganisms Using Magnetic Relaxation Switches)

Project ID: 236252
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

This is the second periodic report for the NANOBIOSENSOR project, which is funded under the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme. This project is developing sensors for nucleic acids to be used in the detection of micro-organisms in third-world water supplies, food products, or in medical applications. The main research areas are split into non-amplification and amplification-based methodologies.

The project is looking into new methods for the rapid detection of nucleic acids using magnetic relaxation switch (MRS) methods. It also aims to provide the proof of concept for the application of MRS within a new tumoral cell lines detection in-vitro system. A general amplifying method would be applicable in basic research and could be translated for use in clinics. A patent covering this application has been filed.
