Abstract

This is the final report for the NANOBIOSENSOR project, which is funded under the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme. This project developed sensors for nucleic acids to be used in the detection of micro-organisms in third-world water supplies, food products, or in medical applications. The main research areas were split into non-amplification and amplification-based methodologies.

The project developed new methods for the rapid detection of nucleic acids using magnetic relaxation switch (MRS) methods and provided the proof of concept for the application of MRS within a new tumoral cell lines detection in-vitro system. A general amplifying method can be applied in basic research and translated for use in clinics. A patent covering this application has already been filed and licensed.
