Innovation Policy Studies - Innovation Policy

The conference was organised by DG Enterprise and Eurostat of the European Commission. The proceedings provide a record of the papers presented and of the general discussions that took place.

The main topics included:

-Advances in innovation indicators - reviewing new approaches to the measurement of innovation and presenting results and research into statistics relevant to policymakers, and reviewing the problem of developing appropriate indicators for the service sector.

-The impact of innovation on firm performance - reviewing the role of innovation and company creation in employment, growth and profitability, and reviewing the role and need for different types of innovation support.

-Results of national and regional Innovation studies - covering the merits and problems associated with the increasing use of regional indicators and the role of framework indicators in assessing National Innovation Systems.

-Policy-oriented innovation indicators; discussing the needs of policymakers and presenting evidence on recent developments in the use of indicators and statistics (e.g. Scoreboarding and Benchmarking).
