The European Union contest for young scientists is an initiative of the European Commission and forms part of the activities of the TMR programme. It was set up to promote the ideals of cooperation and interchange between young scientists. The contest is the annual showcase of the best of European student scientific achievement and such attracts widespread media interest. Brief details are given here of the forthcoming EU contest to be held in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK from 11-13 September 1995.
