Final Report of the eSafety Working Group on Road Safety, November 2002

Funded under: FP5-IST

Abstract

eSafety is a joint industry - public sector initiative for improving road safety by using new Information and Communications technologies. The overall objective is to join forces and to build up a European strategy to accelerate the research and development, deployment and use of Intelligent Integrated Road Safety Systems including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for increasing road safety in Europe.

Following the eSafety High-Level meeting in April 2002, the Information Society DG of the European Commission established the eSafety Working Group to further elaborate the above-mentioned European strategy, to recommend actions and to prepare for the next High-Level meeting. The group was chaired by André Vits (European Commission) and comprised experts drawn from industry and from public authorities in the Member States. This report represents the result of the work in the Working Group.
