Compression of the hexagonal Laves phase UNi(2) to 41 GPa
The isothermal bulk modulus B(o) and its pressure derivative B(o)' were determined from the pressure-volume data by fitting them to the Birch and Murnaghan equations of state. The averages between the Birch and the Murnaghan data are considered to be the best approximation for the compressibility of UNi(2) : B(o)=189(1)GPa, B(o)'=7(1). Bulk moduli from 217 to about 320 GPa having been determined for the other AnMe(2) compounds, UNi(2) is revealed to be softer than these. This is probably due to the difference in crystal structure.
