Abstract

This joint IRSID - SOLMER project deals with the feasibility of and prospects for a different range of cooling conditions and winding temperatures (normally 550-700 C). IRSID has carried out the theoretical work, which has resulted in the development of : - a mechanical model for the calculation of the torque required for tight coils with a stable regime, - a thermal model for the calculation of the cooling coefficient throughout the coil. Industrial trials effected by SOLMER have confirmed the feasibility of and prospects for low-temperature winding for various classes of product (dual-phase steels, higher strength mild steels, tube steels).
