Improvement of energy exploitation through heat exchangers for the cooling or preheating of rolled products
Heat exchangers for cooling or preheating rolled products present interesting possibilities for recovering and saving energy. In cooling the energy transfer by solid radiation is used to generate steam or warm water. In preheating the operation is based on the recovery of the sensible waste gas heat. In order to increase the efficiency of convective heat transfer, the waste gas is blown through nozzle fields on the surface of the rolled products. Convective heat transfer to rounds and billets under nozzle systems has been systematically investigated in model trials. The optimum geometry of nozzle arrangement for heat transfer to round blooms has been determined. The relationships established have been checked and proved in a heat exchanger pilot plant.
