This report brings together ten papers concerning the ASDEX tokamak. The first is an invited paper on impurity accumulation studies in pellet-refuelled ASDEX discharges. Pellet injection allows considerable improvement of the confinement properties. Simultaneously a strong accumulation of metallic impurities is observed, which leads to intolerable cooling of the plasma core region. Two papers on edge parameters discuss the characterization of the density profile and a simulation exercise. Two concern recycling and low energy neutral fluxes. The remainder describe impurities from sources such as charge exchange neutral sputtering, the retention of target-produced impurities, metal impurity fluxes and deposition and erosion at the divertor.
