Scientific laboratories within the member states of the European Economic Community (EEC) have a continuing interest in the use and development of both thermoluminescent dosemeters and thermoluminescence measurement techniques for the assessment of exposure from environmental gamma radiation. A third intercomparison of thermoluminescent dosemeters for environmental measurements has been carried out during 1987 in which the number of measurement sites and the range of calibration facilities have been increased. The following objectives of this intercomparison were achieved: - to provide the participants with the opportunity to have their environmental dosemeters exposed at a wide variety of sites; - to enable a quantitative comparison of different types and designs of thermoluminescent dosemeter; - to establish a forum for the discussion of topics of mutual interest in the field of environmental gamma dosimetry; - to provide a periodic standardisation for participating laboratories.
