This report summarises the work carried out at the University of Strathclyde on research into the mechanical behaviour of cold formed sections and design rules. The theoretical and experimental projects on the behaviour and load carrying capacity of unstiffened elements, edge stiffened elements and intermediately stiffened elements of cold formed steel sections are outlined. From an examination of the results of these projects simple user friendly design rules governing the behaviour of such elements are drawn up. These are compared with the predicted European Recommendations.
