Analytical procedure for solid phase extraction of PCBs from water
Solid phase extraction (SPE) of four individual isomers of PCBs (2,4,5,2',5'-penta, 2,3,4,2',4',5'-hexa, 2,4,5,2',4',5'-hexa and 2,3,4,5,2',4',5'-heptachlorobiphenyl) from water was evaluated using a LC-18 cartridge packed with octadecyldimethylsilyl. The recovery efficiency was investigated in the PCB concentration range of 0.15 to 4.5 ppb. PCBs are quantitatively absorbed in this phase. Good performance was obtained in the lower concentration range with a mean recovery greater than 90%. The ease of this extraction method makes it very useful in routine laboratory work.
