The stability properties of current driven modes are investigated. The equation for the electrostatic potential is analytically solved in slab geometry both in the strongly collisional and in the semicollisional regimes. Interest is focused on the impurity driven mode which can be relevant for situations typical of the edge of a Tokamak. A set of toroidal equations is derived and analyzed in the strongly collisional limit and the relevance to the explanation of edge transport is discussed.
