Reports of the Scientific Committee for Food (nineteenth series)
The report relates to the opinions of the Scientific Committee for Food on the toxicological assessment of a further group of monomers and other starting substances migrating into food from plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs, following an earlier report on the same subject. New developments, e.g. concerning genotoxity, have been taken into consideration in this report. Substances were characterized by their ADI (Acceptable Daily Intake) for food additives as established by JECFA, or by their TDI (Tolerable Daily Intake) established by the Committee where sufficient data is available, and recommendations made on this basis. For the large number of substances where data is lacking or insufficient, priorities will have to be set because of the volume of experimental work to be done. For substances suspected of being toxic, it is recommended that appropriate tests be made as soon as possible. For other substances for which some data exist, the additional information required for a TDI to be established is listed.
