Abstract

For the fatigue crack propagation problem, the distribution of the crack size in time and of the time-to-failure are determined. This is accomplished through a randomisation of the crack growth rate law and by solving appropriately the associated Fokker-Planck equation of a Markovian modelling. The solutions are obtained in the form of convergent infinite series. Numerical studies are used for the verification of the theoretical setting.
