First results of conditioning PINI-1 for TEXTOR Part A : perveance, energy balance, beam profiles, species fractions
The neutral beam ion sources for TEXTOR are modified JET PINIs consisting of an accel-decel three electrode extraction system. The perveance optimum for PINI-1 was found by performing scans in the 20-50kV range. Arc currents between 1000-1100 A were found to suffice for the design value of 88A extracted beam current. The transmission to the main target and the energy balance of the beam was measured at 50kV, 72.6A, 1.9 sec. The horizontal beam profile was measured by a 38 pin V-shaped copper block array. The Hydrogen species mix (H+, H(2)+, H(3)+ ) extracted from the source was measured using H(alpha)-light Doppler shift spectroscopy.
