Reliability and safety in a service economy
The paper intends to show the tight connection existing between the increasing interest in reliability and safety, and the actual transition from the product economy to the service economy. It is shown how the service economy demands mainly relational qualities, that make products compatible with the concept of utilisation. Among these qualities reliability and safety have a prominent position. Within the fields of measurement and norms and standards setting, the problems of reliability and safety are analysed.
