In-field potentiometric determination of uranium in uranium dioxide pellets and powders
In-field analysis of nuclear material in the plant is proposed, only the most difficult samples being sent to specialised laboratories. This gives results more quickly and also reduces the number of containers to be transported. Potentiometry has been investigated for the simple and speedy determination of uranium in uranium-dioxide pellets and powders. Two methods are described; method A consists of analysis by reduction with zinc amalgam and titration with dichromate, method B is a Davis and Cray NBL modified procedure. The results obtained are promising. Some impurities can interfere during titration or cause difficulties during dissolution, method B being less vulnerable to this problem.
