Replacement of phosphorus in detergents Study of the environmental impact
The grave state of eutrophication ascertained in the water of member countries of the European Community, particularly in Denmark, Italy and Netherlands, and the relative importance of domestic detergents to phosphate loads in surface waters, has motivated many international organizations to establish specific research programmes on the consequences of excessive fertilization of the aquatic environment. This report focusses on the problem of replacement of phosphate in detergents considering the implications of the substitutes in detergent formulations for the environment and for public health.
