Abstract

In a previous project supported by the Community, it has been shown that a zerodur sphere can be defined as a standard of density with an uncertainty of the order of 1.0 E-6. A sphere previously studied by PTB and IMGC was then circulated to other laboratories in member States in the European Community to verify the usability of the zerodur sphere as a solid density standard. Overall seven laboratories participated. The results agreed within 1.3 ppm and confirm the fact that such spheres can be used as a solid density standard.
