Dynamic control of the heat regime on a cold tandem mill
The purpose of this research project was to develop, install and operate on-line an integrated roll bending/roll thermal camber control capable of finding and maintaining optimal total roll camber at all stages of the rolling operation. To achieve this purpose, it was necessary to extend the existing process control system of the new tin plate mill at the N. Italsider Genoa-Cornigliano steelworks so as to utilize the shape corrections supplied by the stressometer installed at mill exit, with the object of improving flatness of the strip produced. Following the introduction of plant modifications and the development and implementation of the required software, a definite improvement of strip quality was observed and, in particular, an increase of the strip length rolled to desired thickness and shape condition.
