Experts' group meeting "Present status of varroatosis in Europe and progress in the varroa mite control"
The spread of Varroatosis infestation in EC countries and the incidence of harmful mites in agriculture and beekeeping activities, need constant attention. A correct control method against the Varroa-mite is required. Topics considered are the progress in the knowledge of mite biology and behaviour, the relationship with bees, especially parasite-host endocrine interactions and sensory signals, the detection and evaluation of Varroa infestation in honey-bee colonies and the possibilities of defence taking into consideration economic, toxicological and ecological aspects. The seriousness of the situation has economic repercussions. This pest of bees directly affects bee production and the action of bees in the cross-fertilization of agricultural crops.
