Abstract

The local MHD stability properties of three-dimensional plasma confinement devices are investigated numerically. In the stability analysis, only the B.V operator appears and it must be very accurately represented. The procedure entails a mapping of the coefficients of the equations that govern stability from the flux coordinates in which the equilibrium state is calculated, to flux coordinates in which the magnetic field lines become straight using spectral techniques.
