The third edition of this document gives an inventory of the patent services available to the public in all Western European countries, together with a description of publications in Japan, the United States and the Soviet Union. Thanks to computer-assisted documentary research techniques, the majority of patent offices are able to offer services of assistance to inventors and they now have data bases of their own at their disposal. As the cost of these services is generally based on the length of time the research takes, the client can fix a price ceiling for them. The same presentation plan is used for each country and consists, namely, of the following: I Official information II Patent documents III Official publications IV Points of sale and price V Register of patents VI Services offered to the public VII Regional centres
