Abstract

The need for quantifying the radioactive materials escaping from an LWR Nuclear Power Plant following a melt-down accident has arisen recently in the nuclear reactor technology development process. After many separate effect tests and semi-integral in-pile and out-of-pile experiments, the Phebus FP project is an experimental effort to quantify the relative importance of complicated processes and mechanisms. The objective of this programme is to provide a qualified database of integral in-pile experiments to validate codes dealing with FP transport in reactor core, primary cooling system and containment.
