Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Seven European countries and the European Communities undertook under the auspices of COST, a joint research project on the definition of a data system for interregional passenger transport demand. Work was carried out in four phases: Phase I: Determining and classifying, in order of importance, the main national and international objectives of the socio-economic research into interregional passenger transport. Phase II: Defining the basic data required for the research work recommended in the first phase and classifying the basic requirements which the data must satisfy. Phase III: Assessing the existing data collection systems and estimating how far the results obtained satisfy the basic requirements defined in the second phase. Phase IV: Drawing up a report for those responsible for data collection, making a number of practical proposals to ensure a closer match between data availability and reseach requirements. The final report presents the results of work on the themes studied in the project.
