The contribution of cognitive modelling to the development of decision support system technology
The architecture of a recently developed cognitive model of human behaviour is described. This model simulates the internal processes and representations of a plant operator, using the interaction of engineering judgment, psychological approaches and artificial intelligence tools. Its applications are wide, covering the area of industrial safety analysis and the design and procedures of complex plants. In particular the use of this modelling approach for the development of Decision Support Systems is analysed in detail.
