Report on the on-going EuReDatA benchmark exercise on data analysis
The need of a benchmark exercise (B.E.) on data analysis arose between the EuReDatA members some years ago. Such a B.E. is now in progress. The reference data is a set of raw data taken from the Component Event Data Bank, managed by the JRC Ispra. This data set concerns 417 pumps which operated in 16 European power plant units (12 nuclear and 4 conventional). The reference statistical methods are exploratory data techniques, to be used for a first analysis, and inference techniques to give numerical values for the parameters. Each participant has been asked to perform independent analyses. The main aim of the B.E. is to compare the methods used by the various organizations. The paper illustrates and discusses the wide spectrum of methodologies adopted by the various participants. The approaches used are found to be so diverse that it is an impossibility to compare results of analyses performed by different participants.
