Health risks to personnel exposed to chemical and biological agents in health establishments
The present report examines the available data concerning the chemical and biological risks to which workers in hospitals and other medical services are exposed. Part one deals with microbiological risks, in particular the risks caused by AIDS, Hepatitis B and infections within hospitals, and describes surveillance and protection measures for hospital workers. Part two deals with chemical risks, in particular the risks caused by ethylene oxide, formaldehyde and chemotherapy, and sets out the requirements for epidemiological control. Part three focusses on a number of specific problems, such as those which arise in laboratories and dental surgeries, and on the particular risks associated with blood and blood products. It also contains recommendations on the objectives of research into the dangers to which workers in these services are exposed. Various conclusions are given at the end of the document.
