Abstract

There is a possibility in the near future that the smoking tobacco market-price system will undergo changes, owing to the substantial increase in production costs and because of growing problems in marketing the finished products. According to this assumption, it may prove necessary to forecast the substitution of part of the area at present dedicated to tobacco growing with other crops. An alternative to this undoubtedly traumatizing possibility, could lie in the flexible technological utilization of tobacco, i.e. instead of exploiting it exclusively as a smoking product it could instead be a source of pharmaceutical or food protein.
