This report presents a synthesis of research concerning hot levelling of plates. During this research, steel behaviour was studied in hot levelling conditions and a tensile-plastic bending model for a steel plate had to be developed, followed by a complete unidirectional levelling model based on the first one. In this paper are presented the principles and some calculation results. Hot-levelling systems for plates were also studied. A part of this report deals with such systems, and a complete description of classical hot levellers is given and, in addition, an analysis of their behaviour under levelling forces. A bibliography for new levellers with tension systems developed in Japan is presented. A part of the paper concerns an analysis of levelling defects (cause, modelling and removal during levelling).
