Abstract

This report reviews some of the new finite element formulations which were developed to model more accurately flows in which convection is the dominant transport mechanism. An account is given of methods developed within the finite element framework to treat fluid-structure interaction. Special emphasis is placed on ALE methods for their ability to combine the best features of both the purely Lagrangian and the purely Eulerian approaches.
